Meeting Myron Floren was an exciting moment in time. Myron would come to New Braunfels, Texas every single year for his birthday until his very last one. Myrons birthday party became a yearly event for accordionists who would trek from near and far, throughout Texas and from other neighboring states. What a great excuse to come to New Braunfels, Texas every year, to play and sing Happy Birthday to one of America’s finest accordion stars, Myron Floren. What a super nice person and a terrific entertainer and accordion player. All around, a Top 10 human.
Growing up, there wasn’t a Saturday we missed of the Lawrence Welk show on our living room TV.
I truly love all accordion music but I will admit as a young teen, I was in love with The Beatles and I wanted to play the style of accordion of Garth Hudson who I heard on my favorite THE BAND records I’d play down in the basement where I had my records and a player set up. This is where I learned about Stage Fright and fell in love with the subtle cajun sounds coming through the BAND‘s music of Levon Helm. Another of my Top 10 best. (no photo though) but lookie here — I managed to snap a photo with the great Myron Floren in New Braunfels Texas in 1996.
